Hospice Medical Director

Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and dynamic Hospice Medical Director to lead our hospice care team with passion and expertise. Duties

• Provide medical leadership and oversight for all hospice clinical services, ensuring alignment with best practices and regulatory standards.
• Develop and implement clinical protocols in accordance with NCQA standards, HIPAA, FDA regulations, and healthcare compliance guidelines.
• Supervise and mentor interdisciplinary team members including physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains to deliver comprehensive patient care.
• Oversee medical records management, ensuring accurate documentation within Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and adherence to medical terminology standards.
• Conduct regular audits of utilization management processes, ensuring appropriate resource utilization and quality improvement initiatives are in place.
• Lead efforts in clinical research and data analysis to improve treatment approaches, patient outcomes, and overall program effectiveness.
• Collaborate with hospital partners and managed care organizations to coordinate patient care plans and ensure seamless transitions across care settings.
• Ensure compliance with DEA regulations for controlled substances and maintain proper documentation for medication management.
• Participate in teaching, academic leadership, and post-residency training programs to foster continuous professional development within the organization.

Skills

• Extensive experience with EMR/EHR systems for managing medical records and clinical documentation efficiently.
• Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, medical terminology, and clinical development principles relevant to hospice care.
• Proven leadership skills in healthcare management, including practice management, project management, budgeting, and strategic planning.
• Familiarity with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, NCQA standards, FDA guidelines, drug enforcement laws, and compliance management practices.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise multidisciplinary teams while promoting a culture of quality improvement and patient safety.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with hospital staff, healthcare providers, patients’ families, and community partners.
• Post-residency experience treating patients as a physician within hospice or palliative care settings is highly preferred.
• Experience in research activities related to clinical development or healthcare quality initiatives is a plus.
