Job Description
Job Overview
Capwell Communications' mission is to elevate the standard of care by giving voice to life-changing medical innovation.
For 16 years, we've worked with healthcare innovators to turn complex science into clear, compelling stories that build credibility, create market momentum, and move companies forward. We've been named the nation's Best Boutique Agency seven years running.
Now we're building Capwell's next chapter: a lean, senior-led, AI-enabled agency built to grow without adding layers, delivering exceptional work with greater speed, creativity, and impact.
We're looking for a VP or SVP to lead our client accounts and the senior team that delivers them. This is a pivotal role for someone who wants to do exceptional work, build something meaningful, and lead successful, high-performing client accounts.
Who you are
You're an exceptional healthcare communications strategist and operator, and a senior leader who stays close to the work. But just as important, you bring energy to the room.
- You're optimistic, resourceful, and wired to see possibilities. When something isn't working, your instinct isn't to explain why. It's to figure out what could work instead.
- You take personal responsibility. You communicate openly. You don't wait to be told what to do, and you're willing to roll up your sleeves and do the work that's required.
- You're strategic and creative. You see angles other people miss, simplify complexity, and find fresh ways to position companies and tell their stories.
- You're curious and experimental. You'll try something, test it, learn from it, and make it better. You embrace AI as leverage and are excited about reinventing how great agency work gets done.
- You have high standards and bring positive energy to everything you do. You're a team player and someone people genuinely enjoy working with. You're open-minded, intuitive, and appreciate a little woo.
- Most importantly, you care about the mission. You want your work to matter, and the opportunity to elevate the standard of care through better comms means something to you.
What you lead
Healthy, profitable client accounts and a high-performing senior team.
- Client relationships. You're the senior counselor to client executives and their first call.
- Strategy. You lead positioning, messaging, and communications strategy that differentiates our clients and moves their businesses forward.
- Account teams. You lead a senior team and work alongside them. As we grow, you add people you love to work with, with AI doing what junior layers used to do.
- Account health and growth. Once a client signs, you own onboarding and delivery. You keep clients renewing, expand scope where we add value, and run accounts on budget.
- AI-enabled delivery. You embrace our AI and agentic workflows, continually finding ways to make your teams faster, sharper, and more effective.
What you bring
- 8+ years in healthcare communications, with 3+ years at VP level or above.
- Exceptional strategic positioning, messaging, and storytelling skills.
- Medtech or biotech experience, with fluency in clinical milestones, FDA/regulatory news, and investor communications.
- A track record of leading teams, retaining and growing clients, and owning an account or practice P&L.
- Strong relationships in the industry, including potential clients and exceptional teammates you'd want to bring with you.
- High fluency with AI and a genuine interest in using it to make great work even better.
The opportunity
This is a rare chance to step into an established, award-winning agency at a true inflection point and help shape what comes next.
You'll have the autonomy to lead, the freedom to think differently, and the opportunity to build the kind of client teams, culture, and agency you've always wanted to be part of.
We're intentionally building Capwell differently. We are growing with a lean team, senior talent and smart systems, not layers. We work with exceptional clients on work that has real, meaningful impact.
As Capwell grows, this role grows with it. So will your influence, scope, and compensation.
If you're ready to do some of the best work of your career and help build the next generation of a great agency, let's talk.
Compensation and benefits
We're primarily seeking a full-time leader but are open to an exceptional candidate who prefers a part-time or subcontractor arrangement, with compensation scaled accordingly.
Base salary
$160,000 to $200,000 based on experience and level. Compensation, authority, and scope grow with the results of the role.
Benefits
Health insurance, 401(k) plan and additional benefits for employees.
Pay: $160,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
Benefits
- 401(k)
- Health insurance
- Paid time off
Application Question(s)
- What drew you to healthcare communications? Share one piece of work that helped move medical innovation or patient care forward, and why it mattered to you.
- What kind of agency environment and team brings out your best work? What makes you lose energy?
- Tell us about a healthcare company you helped position or reposition. What messaging/angle did you find that set them apart, and what did it change for their business?
- How are you using AI in your work right now? Walk us through a specific workflow, the tools you use, and what it made better.
- Tell us about a time an account, team, or business challenge looked stuck. What possibility did you see that others missed, and what did you do?
- Tell us about a client account you took over or elevated. What did you personally change, and what were the results in retention, growth, or profitability?
- If you could bring one client or teammate with you, what is it about them that makes you want to bring them? (No names.)
- What are your salary expectations for this role?
