*About the role:*
As an Executive Medical Director, you will serve as a senior clinical leader at Accompany Health, reporting directly to the Chief Medical Officer. Working in close partnership with the Head of Market Operations, VBC leadership team, and Product teams, you will hold dyad operational accountability for building, leading, and refining market-based clinical care systems. You will directly drive high-quality clinical care, total cost of care performance, quality metrics, and exceptional employee engagement across clinical pods.
*Responsibilities will include:*
Operational & Clinical Performance Management
- In dyad partnership with the Head of Market Operations, design and execute operational systems to deliver excellent, compassionate, patient-centered clinical care
- Accountability includes driving key market KPIs, accurate clinical documentation, total cost of care reduction, 4+ STARs on HEDIS measures, and strong patient engagement and experience
Clinical People Leadership & Talent Development
* Directly manage Market Medical Directors and Clinical Directors/Managers to lead market-based physicians and APCs. Support and coach clinical leadership on managing care pod panels, refine ongoing competencies, establish coaching/remediation plans, and partner with the People Team to build clear career growth pathways
Strategic Leader for Clinical Innovation
* Act as a key clinical leader for strategic clinical innovation, including technology and AI enablement, in order to design and implement care model innovations and programming targeted at reducing avoidable medical expense, improving quality and preventative care, ensuring appropriate diagnosis, and driving strong patient engagement and experience
Quality, Safety, and Culture
* Ensure adherence to evidence-based clinical guidelines, Accompany Health standards, clinical policies, safety protocols, and company procedures while actively upholding company cultural values and norms
Market Implementation & Expansion
- Partner with Market Operations to lead timely and successful new payor/market implementations
- Oversee clinician hiring, recruiting, and adaptation of operational systems tailored to specific market and contract requirements
Growth and Payor Relationships
* Represent Accompany Health externally to advance partnerships with payors, health systems, and provider groups in order to drive success of market implementation and future growth
Direct Clinical Care & On-Call Coverage
- Dedicate up to ~10% of time to direct clinical care (virtual urgent care, in-person urgent care, or overflow care)
- Participate in rotating on-call schedules and clinician supervision coverage as needed
Travel
* Travel will be variable around monthly to existing markets and/or offsite although may increase as needed to support market / payor launches

*Desired skills and experience:*
Required
- M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school with active, unencumbered medical licensure (and willingness to obtain multi-state licensure)
- Board Certification in a primary care discipline (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics) or related specialty
- 8+ years of clinical practice experience, with 5+ years in senior clinical leadership roles overseeing physicians, APCs, and clinical managers within value-based care (VBC) organizations
- Proven track record of managing total cost of care (TCOC), HEDIS/STARs performance, risk-adjustment documentation, and patient satisfaction KPIs
- Demonstrated expertise in managing dyad operational models, market launches, clinician coaching/performance remediation, and multidisciplinary care pod management
- Active willingness to participate in direct patient care (~10%), rotating call schedules, and required market travel
Preferred
- Experience and fluency in using AI tools in daily practice as well as AI enablement of workforce
- Experience working within high-growth, venture-backed/Series B healthcare startups or innovative home-based primary care models
- Deep familiarity with Medicare Advantage, Medicaid managed care, and Dual-Eligible (D-SNP) populations
- Experience partnering closely with Product, Tech, and Strategic Ops teams to iterate and scale tech-enabled clinical care models
Salary ranges are based on role, level, and location, and reflect the minimum to maximum target for new hire pay in each position. Depending on the role, you may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and benefits.
