AMS is seeking a strategic and results-driven Director of Financial Operations to lead day-to-day financial operations and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and effectiveness of billing, payroll, financial controls, and service delivery. This role is designed for an accomplished operations leader who can translate broad account and regional management experience into disciplined financial execution. The Director partners closely with Operations leadership, customers, and internal teams to strengthen financial performance, contract compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate combines financial discipline with practical operational leadership. This person is comfortable managing multiple accounts or contracts, leading managers and supervisors, working directly with customers, and taking ownership of billing, payroll, deliverables, and financial performance in a complex service environment.'
Ideal candidate will live in North Carolina, if not must live in Eastern Standard time zone - Must be willing to travel to Asheville and/or Wake Forest, NC once a month - otherwise this is a remote/work from home opportunity.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
*Financial Operations & Controls:*
- Oversee billing and payroll operations, including the cradle-to-grave processes managed by the Billing Supervisors for their assigned accounts.
- Direct, coach, and support a Financial Operations team to meet deadlines, accuracy standards, and service expectations.
- Ensure proper allocation of revenue and costs across projects and customers, including project setup and cost-of-sales matching.
- Maintain effective financial controls, operating procedures, reporting, reconciliation, and issue-escalation practices.
*Customer & Financial Partnership:*
- Monitor customer requirements and contractual compliance, coordinate contract renewal activities, and support customer retention.
- Partner with senior and operational leaders to interpret financial results, identify risks, and improve account profitability and execution.
*Leadership & Continuous Improvement:*
- Provide hands-on leadership and coverage when staffing, workload, or deadlines require intervention.
- Lead process improvement, standardization, automation, and cross-functional coordination across Financial Operations.
WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE
- Bachelor's degree in a business-related field or industry relevant field.
- Minimum of 5 years of managerial experience.
- Progressive leadership experience in operations, financial operations, account management, contract management, or related discipline.
- Experience overseeing financial results, billing, payroll, budgets, forecasts, or contract deliverables.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, work with customers, and manage multiple accounts or projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency with spreadsheets, financial reporting, and business systems used to manage billing, payroll, timekeeping, contracts, and operational performance.
WHAT WOULD BE AMAZING TO HAVE
- Leadership experience in the electric utility or utility services industry.
- Experience supporting operations across multiple states, regions, customers, or contracts.
- Knowledge of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, payroll closeout, timesheet accuracy, revenue and cost allocation, and month-end activities.
- Experience leading post-merger integration, process standardization, or organizational change.
- Relevant professional, technical, project management, or industry certification.
MEASURES OF SUCCESS
- Billing and payroll are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Billing Supervisors and assigned specialists demonstrate clear ownership, reliable coverage, and timely issue resolution.
- Revenue and cost allocations, project setup, and cost-of-sales matching are accurate and supportable.
- Customer and contract requirements are consistently met.
- Financial reporting and operational insights support sound decisions and improved account performance.
- Processes become more standardized, efficient, controlled, and scalable.

This is a remote office environment with minimal travel requirements.
