Job Description
Position Summary
Clinician Engagement is a new function at DataSpring, created to deepen the relationship between DataSpring and the clinicians and provider organizations who contribute to and rely on our data. The function exists to increase trust and positive perception within the clinician user community, improve the quality of the data clinicians provide, and grow the volume of clinicians in our database, including the number who are active and attested.
The Director, Clinician Engagement leads this function. The position builds and stewards the forums where clinicians and provider staff shape our direction, develops partnerships with the provider organizations clinicians already trust, and serves as DataSpring's internal subject matter expert on clinician perspective. The role accelerates the reach and credibility of work already underway across Marketing, Product, and Insights by bringing clinician voice and clinician relationships to it.
This is role spans strategy and execution. The Director sets direction and holds the senior relationships, and also does the hands-on work of running councils, managing partner relationships week to week, and synthesizing what clinicians say into direction the rest of the organization can act on. Success depends on convening the right clinicians, earning their sustained participation, and closing the loop so they see their input reflected in what DataSpring builds and says.
The Director, Clinician Engagement is a full-time, remote, exempt position and reports to the Chief Medical Officer. This position will require the ability to travel up to 20% of the time for council meetings, site visits, association events, and industry forums.
Specific Responsibilities
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Strategic Input
- Partner with Marketing and Product Strategy on a shared approach to increasing clinician awareness of and engagement with their clinician profile; in partnership with the CMO, drive strategy and execution on how best to reach specific associations, specialty societies, and clinician segments.
- Partner with Convening function to provide subject matter expertise and input to agendas and meetings for DataSpring’s advisory councils, including the Provider Advisory Council and new clinician staff workgroup. Support the recruitment of council members who bring specialty society and partner organization relationships alongside clinical credibility.
- Partner with Marketing to amplify campaigns through clinician and association channels and to strengthen clinician-facing messaging.
- Partner with Product and Data Quality teams to bring clinician and provider staff needs into design and roadmap decisions.
- Partner with Product, Product Marketing, and Research to understand what additional value DataSpring can provide to clinicians and their staff, in exchange for completing/updating their profiles.
- Partner with Government & Public Affairs to amplify clinician voice and perspective in DataSpring’s public policy positions, provide clinical subject matter expertise in support of legislative and regulatory analysis, and enhance government and public affairs reach to targeted clinician communities.
Provider Organization Partnerships and Industry Relations
- Develop and implement a comprehensive clinician engagement strategy to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
- Build and manage relationships with professional associations, specialty societies, state and national medical associations, health systems, and large group practices.
- Develop and deliver content that supports the clinician awareness work referenced above, including webinars, podcasts, conference presentations, and partner-facing materials. May include development of continuing education content for clinicians and provider staff, coordinating with partners to deploy.
- In addition to the CMO, serve as the relationship owner for provider organization partners, representing DataSpring credibly with clinical leadership.
- Develop and execute co-branded and partner-led approaches that extend the reach of DataSpring programs and campaigns through trusted third-party voices.
- Coordinate partner campaigns with Marketing from planning through measurement and prepare briefing materials and follow-ups for senior partner conversations.
- Build and maintain a partnership pipeline with clear prioritization logic, sequencing clinician segments by value to our health plan customers.
- Negotiate and manage partnership agreements in coordination with Legal, Marketing, Business Development, Product, and other functions as appropriate.
Subject Matter Expertise for Research, Insights, and Thought Leadership
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on clinician and practice staff perspective, workflow reality, and what motivates clinician and clinician staff action.
- Advise DataSpring’s Insights department on research design and interpretation so studies ask the right questions and findings are read correctly in clinician-facing/provider organization context.
- Support research execution by recruiting participants and reviewing findings for plausibility.
- Maintain a running view of clinician and provider staff feedback themes across forums, campaigns, and support channels, and package into concise briefs for internal partners.
- Shape messaging and positioning toward themes that resonate with clinicians, including patient access, directory presence, referral volume, and fewer claim denials.
- Contribute to and review external thought leadership, including reports, issue briefs, and presentations, and represent DataSpring at clinical, association, and industry forums.
Reporting
- Define what success looks like and track key performance metrics and clinician engagement metrics covering trust and perception, data quality, and active attested clinician volume. Collaborate with departments that may source data for the metrics (Marketing, Product, etc.).
- Report on clinician engagement progress and outcomes to the executive leadership team.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None initially. This role is expected to help shape and scale the Clinician Engagement function and may assume responsibility for managing a small team as the function matures
Skills
- Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and execute innovative initiatives.
- Strong relationship-building skills with provider organizations, specialty societies, and medical associations.
- Fluency in the clinician and provider staff experience, including credentialing, attestation, provider directory data, and administrative workflow.
- Ability to translate qualitative stakeholder input into clear, prioritized recommendations for product, marketing, and research teams.
- Executive presence and credibility with both clinical leadership and internal executive audiences.
- Excellent writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex discussion into briefs, PowerPoint presentations, and recommendations.
- Ability to develop and deliver clinician-facing and clinician-staff facing content, including webinars, presentations, and continuing education materials.
- Effective at influencing without authority and at building cross-functional support for new initiatives.
- Strong project management discipline, with comfort operating without established process and building programs from the ground up.
- Understanding of how clinician sentiment connects to organizational priorities, with the ability to anticipate how input will be used in decisions.
- Ability to simultaneously manage multiple initiatives and follow work plans.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong experience in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; working knowledge of CRM and survey tools is desired.
- Maintains an intellectual curiosity about how to accomplish goals through stakeholder and industry collaboration.
Experience & Education
- 10+ years of experience in provider relations, clinician engagement, healthcare operations, medical affairs, professional association management, credentialing, or a related healthcare field, with progressive leadership responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience in provider-facing, clinician engagement, medical affairs, association relations, provider network, or healthcare stakeholder management roles.
- Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with senior clinical stakeholders, provider organizations, and healthcare industry leaders.
- Experience leading advisory boards, councils, committees, user groups, or similar stakeholder engagement programs.
- Experience standing up a new function, program, committee, or stakeholder forum strongly preferred.
- Experience in a health plan, health IT, healthcare data, healthcare services, credentialing, or healthcare association environment preferred.
- Experience with provider credentialing processes and/or credentialing committees preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business administration, public health, a clinical discipline, or a related field required.
- Physicians and other licensed clinicians are encouraged to apply; non-clinical candidates with significant experience in credentialing, provider relations, professional associations, or healthcare stakeholder engagement will also be considered.
Clinical Education & Qualifications (Strongly Preferred)
- Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree preferred.
- Clinical experience as a physician (MD/DO) or other licensed healthcare professional preferred.
- Active or previously active, unrestricted clinical licensure preferred.
- Experience participating in credentialing, peer review, provider governance, medical staff, or quality-related activities preferred.
- For physician candidates, board certification in a relevant specialty is preferred.
- Additional certification or education in healthcare management, leadership, or business administration is desirable.
